St. John’s College, Jaffna, is one of the oldest and prestigious educational institutions of Sri Lanka. Moulded by Christian Values, it was founded in 1823 by the missionaries of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) with the vision, “To create an ethos for students to attain excellence spiritually, academically, morally and socially”. In the journey of two centuries, the College has faced and endured many unprecedented challenges and the direct impact of the 30-year civil war. Yet it has prevailed by the Grace of the Almighty.
St. John’s College continues to aspire, while transcending all social norms, to be the haven for children from every walk of life; empowering the boys who enter the gates as fledglings, to become great men of stature and integrity in all spheres of life. The College has produced many eminent global citizens in every facet of academia, business, sports and more. May the College continue to be the nurturing dwelling for excellence in education, sports and holistic values and may the Johnians continue to soar to the heights of success and happiness.
“To create an ethos for students to attain excellence spiritually, academically, morally and socially.”
“To lead, motivate and provide training to achieve the vision.”
